Triple Bam and Team Madnice get together for another Liverpool Hip Hop sure shot featuring 3 icons of East Coast Hip Hop, all 3 longstanding member’s of Guru and DJ Premier’s extended crew The Gang Starr Foundation. By the early 90’s Guru and Premier had already established themselves as one of Hip Hops greatest duos with 3 groundbreaking LP’s coupling Premo's dope Jazz loops and signature head nodding beats with Guru’s unmistakable tone, flow and subject matter. Not content with cementing their own status as legends and pioneers in the rap game they formed the super crew The Gang Starr Foundation introducing the world to a new era of East Coast Artists including M.O.P. Group Home, Freddie Foxx and of course tonights headliners Jeru The Damaja, Big Shug and Afu Ra.
Jeru The Damaja exploded onto the Hip Hop scene with his ’94 classic LP “The Sun Rises In The East”. Produced entirely by DJ Premier this debut was widely credited as helping revive the East Coast Hip Hop scene along with Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Illmatic and Enta Da Stage. At a time when Yo MTV Raps was still going strong Jeru became a global Hip Hop Star. Still a prolific recording artists and performer Jeru hits Constellations off the back of his new single “Solar Flares” produced by the one and only Large Professor.
Big Shug has been Gang Starr Fam since day one, growing up with Guru he has featured on “Hard To Earn”, “Moment of Truth” and “The Ownerz” as well as recording with Premier and touring the globe as his right hand man on the mic. Afu Ra, the only guest MC to feature on Jeru the Damaja’s “Sun Rises…” and “Wrath of The Math” was also a regular Gang Starr Collaborator. He eventually stepped out on his own the 1998’s underground classic "Whirlwind Through Cities” His highly anticipated debut album, Body of the Life Force, released in October 2000, did not disappoint. Featuring production from prominent Hip Hop beatmakers DJ Premier, DJ Muggs and Da Beatminerz and featuring Wu-Tang Clan's GZA and Masta Killa, M.O.P. and the Cocoa Brovaz.
