Future Bubblers Bloc Party (July 2017)

With relentless rain pelting down upon the Constellations Garden for much of early July, the nerves were jittering leading into the first Liverpool Future Bubblers Bloc Party. However, the rain paid its dividends...the sun came out and the Garden was in full bloom.

With performances including a city-debut from Yazmin Lacey, DJ sets from a whole host of local selectors like Bolts, Suede Brown and Tom Lye, and an unforgettable performance from Nu Tribe under the Garden tent, the Bloc Party has long remained one for the history books for all who attended. Not forgetting the totally free ice cream, Ableton production workshop and all round good vibrations that were felt throughout the day.

Exactly was the Constellations Garden was built for...

Live Music Thursdays: Jam Scones Quartet (October 2017 - March 2018)

In Autumn of 2017, we asked Sam Jones, a member of our bar team, to curate a band for an autumn & winter residency. Little did we know that this would lead to a series of some of the most intimate and electrifying nights ever seen and heard in the Constellations Bar...Who knew jazz was so danceable!?

Joined by a “Quartet” of Max O’Hara (Galactic Funk Militia), Alex McDowall (Mamadou & The Lekette) and Pablo Sonnaillon (The Lufos), Sam and co. quickly became firm favourites among the staff and punters alike - playing live in the bar and streaming out via the Constellations Facebook page each month. They were later join by the legendary Tony Seasman of The Grapes Band, but the band resolutely stuck to their “Quartet” status...despite often being joined by 5, 6 and even 7 band members.

It was the environment fostered by Sam and co, and all the other Live Music Thursdays residents, that led to Constellations becoming the go-to spot for live jazz in the Baltic Triangle this year.

Catch them playing alongside a whole host of local talent at On the Corner Jazz Festival, 28th - 29th April.

Weddings (All of them!)

Who doesn’t love a Constellations wedding, right? We certainly do, with over half of our staff sticking a wedding right at the top of their list!

We've always been a quirky and creative choice for wedding couples, and those who have chosen to celebrate their once-in-a-lifetime occasion with us have certainly known how to throw a party. There's been BBQ weddings, drones flying over head, smoke grenades, steel bands, big red busses and so much more...not to overlook the fantastic idea of throwing a full English breakfast buffet wedding.

Probably the most memorable aspect of weddings at Constellations is their demonstration of the collaborative and co-working attitude of the Baltic Triangle; with traders, florists, pop-ups and musicians all coming together to pull off truly unique experiences for couples on every occasion!

Baltic Weekender (Highlight Crazy P) (June 2017)

Cards on the table here...last year’s Baltic Weekender was logistically intense! It was all hands on deck over the first two days of June 2017, as Abandon Silence and 24 Kitchen Street teamed up for a mammoth takeover of the Baltic Triangle. Constellations, Hangar 34, 24 Kitchen Street and District all hosted artists spanning from spiritual jazz, to techno and jungle.

Standing out, head and shoulders above the rest on that weekend, Crazy P’s live performance had the garden bouncing for over 90-minutes, as Danielle Moore stood stage-top for a huge performance to a packed-out Constellations Garden. Think BBQ in the sunshine, dancing on tables and more disco balls than 1980’s New York!

Relentless sun and equally relentless chants of "Ohh, Jeremy Corbyn"...led by Crazy P themselves...had the Garden rocking into the night.

We’re eagerly awaiting the return of the Baltic Weekender in just a few months...with some brilliant artists lined-up for the Garden and Warehouse this year.

Quantic - Live (May 2016)

A classic Constellations combination of BBQ, sunshine and worldly sounds from the man Will Holland, AKA Quantic.

It was a very hot day in late May. Liverpool were facing up to Sevilla in the Europa League final and punters were torn between 90-minutes of footy, or catching a rare UK appearance from the globe-trotting, Quantic. In the end we were all treated to both, with the cup final beamed into the bar before the gig.

Liverpool went down 3-1 in a less than fair result (honest…) but any shred of misery was quickly vanquished by a spellbinding performance from Quantic and his entire live band. Featuring a very special vocal performance from stateside soul singer, Jimetta Rose, the gig stood as a landmark moment in the Constellations story with a packed-out warehouse swaying to every lick of cumbia and bossa they heard.

Positive Vibration: Festival of Reggae (All Years)

Another Baltic takeover, Positive Vibration: Festival of Reggae, warmly referred to by the Constellations staff as Possy Vibes, has long been one of our favourites for its friendly atmosphere, awesome family friendly programme and spine rattling sound systems.

With music, food, art, records and so much more all on offer at Constellations, District and Hangar 34, the festival has served as a blueprint for the many Baltic-based festivals that now take place every summer.

Last year’s Art of Reggae Exhibition at Constellations brought hundreds of reggae-infused posters from around the world to the walls of the café and event space. With submission flying in from as far out as China, Eastern Europe and of course, the Caribbean. The event also holds regular socials, workshops and discussions, all designed to advance Jamaican and Caribbean music, culture and community in Liverpool...boss!

With a huge line-up in place for 2018, the festival's fourth full outing, we can’t wait to see the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, Roni Size and co. stopping by the Baltic Triangle this June.

No Homers Club / Isla Nebular / Scouser Things (2015-17)

Who doesn't love a makeover...Over the years, we've been happy to hand over the keys to a few trusted friends, each of whom have brought Constellations to life as fictional worlds from The Simpsons, Jurassic Park and Stranger Things.

Our first takeover back in 2015 brought a city wide drought of yellow and blue paint, as artists and makers all brought their artwork to Constellations for the largest exhibition of Simpsons artwork the North West has ever seen. No Homers saw flamin' moes served up from behind the bar, a "prank call the bartender" phone line and a pop up donut stand...which no Simpsons tribute would be complete without.

Later that year, the venue took a step back in time as Constellations became Isla Nebular...more commonly known as Jurassic Park. Overrun by jungle, actual dinosaurs, a jeep, huge replica gates and a live reenactment of the controversial T Rex vs Indominous Rex from Jurassic World…this event was great!

Rebooting the transformations, in 2017 we once again took a plunge into the unknown...this time into the world of cult TV show, Stranger Things. There was an Upside Down, music from The Department of Energy, a huge Demogorgon and flickering fairy lights throughout.

So yes...we've cheated a little here and gone for a few more than seven, but how could we chose!? Here are a few honourable mentions that we couldn't squeeze in.

Morning Gloryville - Yousef DJ Set (November 2014)

Who knew 100s of people would actually get up for a early morning rave before heading off to work that day? We were still in building mode when we first hosted Morning Gloryville, famously we held a Morning Gloryville event on one morning and then fitted our ginormous front door that very same afternoon! The builders didn’t believe the party had even happened until we showed them all the glitter left on the floor!

Craft Beer Expo - (All Years)

Beers, beards and organised chaos for a week of every year. Craft Beer Expo introduced us to a some now great friends and presented us with heaps of good time memories (especially the end of festival after-party...AKA: ‘Cleaning up all the beer and drinking all the remaining kegs!)
