Liverpool Events Women In Horror

Horror is misogynistic, exploitative, violent, and considered far too extreme for the fairer sex.

Horror is affirmative, brimming with strong positive female role-models and is a leading light in gender equality. In horror movies: the last man standing is inevitably a woman, a Final Girl who is the only person able to save the day when all hope is lost.

You are invited to join us as we challenge and discuss this dichotomy in the darkest and most beguiling of genres. We will showcase artists, performers, filmmakers and other creatives. We’ll hear the views and insights of industry experts as they dissect both sides of the argument in order to better understand the role of the alleged tender gender: Women In Horror.

We’ll begin the month with an art exhibition, ‘A Celebration of Women In Horror’ which will be on display from early February.

Talks from local women working in various facets of the genre (film, art & literature) and also showcasing a selection of creatives who are based elsewhere.

Our keystone talk for the evening will be an in-depth panel discussion. The conversation will tackle the idea that horror is misogynistic and exploitative, yet has lead the field on gender equality and positive female role-models for a long time.

This panel will feature industry experts who will bring their own views, insights and subject matter to the table. Our guests include:
Eileen Daly (Horror actress, producer & director)
Amanda Follit (Exec & management of business operating in digital, music & events)
Mariam Draeger (Head-Cinema Productions) will host the panel.

The evening will draw to close with a screening of Mary Harron’s fantastic adaptation of American Psycho (2000).
